After a chance meeting in a Worthing cafe, our co-founders, local musician and promoter Thom Milner-Smith and businessman Ant Dickinson, organised The Mother of All Parties, which saw 500 revellers fill the town’s Assembly Hall on New Year’s Eve 2014. Their next gig with The Charlatans, Sold Out in just a week. The nights out that Thom and Ant envisioned were proving popular – and Atom was born

THOM’S STORY
As a child, Atom co-founder Thom Milner-Smith received a piano as a Christmas present and, inspired by minimalist composer Phillip Glass, taught himself to play. Later, he joined variety of bands – Falsetto Teeth, Paper Faces and Culpepper – in his hometown of Worthing, before forming his own band, Poco Tiger
Along with a friend, Thom began booking gigs and events in 2008. Putting on local acts in small venues encouraged his love of bringing people together in one place to experience the life-changing moments that live music can create. From the back room of The Brunswick pub, where they were lovingly known as “superstars”, Thom moved his venture to The Rest, establishing a monthly variety night that featured music, comedy, theatre and DJs
With more experience under his belt, Thom formed Special Treat in 2011 to deliver experiential events and concerts across Worthing and Brighton. Highlights from this time include hosting No Tomorrow: End of the World Party, Menagerie, James Acaster and Professor Elemental
By 2013, when he met Ant Dickinson, Thom was working predominantly with St Paul’s Art Centre, Worthing’s largest multi-arts venue, booking gigs with artists such as Ian McCulloch of Echo and the Bunnymen, Scott Matthews, Lloyd Cole and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown
